Wildfire Prompts Evacuations and Road Closures in Ocean County

South Stump Tavern Road has been closed due to a wildfire in Jackson Township, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service announced Wednesday.

As at around 1:30 p.m., on November 6th, authorities reported that 15 houses along the road were being evacuated.

According to the Forest Fire Service, containment efforts have just begun and the fire should be confined within 300 acres or so. Backfiring operations are being carried out by forest fire service personnel, according to officials, who are "strategically burning fuel in the fire's path to slow its advance and assist with containment efforts."

The wildfire is projected to be contained at approximately 300 acres.
