According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, on November 5, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to the intersection of Maplehurst Avenue and Cross Street for a report of a cyclist having been struck by a motor vehicle.

A 35-year-old woman with severe injuries was discovered in the road by responding officers. A vehicle was driving north on Cross Street when it struck the cyclist, who was also traveling north on Cross Street, according to an investigation by the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad. After then, the car left the area.

After being transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, the victim's status is rated as critical.

According to the results of an ongoing investigation, the car that hit the victim is thought to have been a silver or blue Toyota or Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle.

The car's front end and front bumper are probably damaged.
