New Jersey Wakes to Winter Wonderland: 11 Inches of Snow
NJ Residents Experience 11 Inches of Snow—Will More Follow?
An overnight storm delivered just under 11 inches of snow in the northwest region of the State of New Jersey.
There was a "wide range" of accumulation totals reported by the
National Weather Service for the Garden State, with higher elevations experiencing anywhere from 7.5 inches of snow in West Milford to 10.9 inches at High Point. If anything, communities nearer sea level recorded 1 to 2 inches.
Morris, Sussex, and Warren Counties are under a winter weather advisory that is in effect until 4 p.m. on Friday.
According to the
National Weather Service's advisory, "strong winds and the weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages above 1,200 feet elevation."
Before the storm system moves east of New Jersey on Friday night, forecasters at the National Weather Service predict more rain and maybe more snow across the state.
In northwest New Jersey, the snow forced scores of schools to close and postpone classes on Friday.
According to the National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mt.Holly the forecast for today remains on track with precipitation continuing throughout the day for the northern half of the region while slowly returning to the southern half through this morning and into the afternoon.
Areas near and north of the I-78 corridor in Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey will see snowfall accumulation continue into this afternoon, with the most significant amounts at higher elevations. Extra caution should be taken while travelling in this area as roads may remain covered in slush and snow.
Precipitation will clear the area later this evening and through the overnight hours tonight.
