Toms River Man Killed in Tragic Crash After Car Slams Into Tree
WOODLAND TOWNSHIP, NJ — An 84-year-old Toms River man died Friday morning after the SUV he was driving crashed into a tree near a traffic circle on Route 70, according to New Jersey State Police.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 26.3 on State Highway 70.
Authorities said Thomas M. Donato was traveling east on Route 70 in a Buick toward the Route 70/Route 72 traffic circle when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV left the roadway on the left side, struck a curb and a road sign, and continued traveling east through the traffic area. The vehicle then crossed back toward the right side of the roadway, where it struck another curb and sign before ultimately crashing into a tree, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
