Cold Temperatures to Bring Snow Flurries to New Jersey
Before temperatures drop to below-normal levels early next week, rain and possibly thunderstorms are expected to spread across New Jersey on Sunday.
When a storm system moves in from the west on Sunday, the rainy weather will arrive.
The majority of regions will stay dry until Sunday morning, but in the afternoon, there is a greater probability of rain moving from the south to the north.
On Sunday afternoon and evening, there may be isolated thunderstorms around the
Jersey Shore. Sunday night will see more rain, with a brief respite before a cold front moves across the state.
Sunday will also see above-normal temperatures, with highs in the upper 50s in northwest New Jersey and the mid-60s in southern areas.
But as a blast of Arctic air moves into the state on Monday, a major pattern shift starts.
According to the
National Weather Service, with breezy conditions, Monday's high temperatures will reach their highest point in the mid-40s to low-50s.
Most places outside of the immediate coast will experience below-freezing temperatures by Monday night, with lows in the mid-20s in northwest counties and the mid-30s close to the coast.
The coldest air of the season will arrive on Tuesday, making it feel more like December than November.
Only the low to mid-40s will see high temperatures, with some counties possibly seeing the 30s.
It will seem more colder due to strong west-northwest winds, which can reach 40 mph before fading later in the day.
Accuweather predicts they will still be below seasonal averages, temperatures will start to moderate Tuesday evening and continue into Wednesday.
As high pressure moves into the area, Thursday and Friday will continue to be seasonably cool with primarily dry conditions.
Temperatures are predicted to progressively approach seasonal averages as this dry trend continues over the weekend.
Although it's not a lock yet, a blast of cold air and precipitation is expected to arrive early next week, potentially bringing the season's first snowfall to some parts of New Jersey.
According to experts from the
National Weather Service and
AccuWeather, there may be some snowfall in the northwest part of the state late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. But right now, no accumulations are anticipated. Check your local
forecast.
