NJ Fugitive Facing Second Murder Charge Apprehended in California

Earlier this month, a Honduran man wanted in connection with a killing in Trenton was apprehended in California and charged with the shooting death of a 24-year-old mother in what officials say was a planned ambush.

On March 5, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers and many law enforcement partners arrested Alfonso Inestroza, 31, also known as Franquin Inestroza-Martinez, in Hollister, California.

In New Jersey, he has been charged in the death of Esteban Vicente Sacalxot.

When Trenton police arrived at the 300 block of Dayton Street at 9:30 p.m. on March 17, 2025, they discovered Sacalxot, 55, with several gunshot wounds to the torso.

At the scene, he was declared deceased. Warrants were issued after investigators determined that Inestroza was the suspect. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office launched a public search for him in May 2025.

The second case is related to the shooting death of 24-year-old Mountain View, California resident Kembery Chirinos-Flores on January 7. According to investigators, the murder happened during a botched custody handover. Authorities claim that co-defendant Gerzon Chirinos-Munguia, with whom Chirinos-Flores had a kid, planned the attack.

It is said that Inestroza carried it out. Recovered was a shotgun thought to be the murder weapon. Her five-year-old son survives Chirinos-Flores.

Before reappearing around 3,000 miles away in Hollister, Inestroza eluded the U.S. Marshals and the Mercer County Homicide Task Force for almost a year.

A SWAT squad conducted the arrest, according to Sunnyvale's public safety chief, "because he's already sought out in New Jersey for a homicide, so we were concerned for our protection."

Inestroza was apprehended in California, according to the prosecutor's office.

The investigation is still in progress. Inestroza is still being held in Santa Clara, California.
