Free Hands-On Fishing Workshop Coming to Wells Mills County Park This July
Residents across Ocean County will have a new way to enjoy the outdoors this summer as the NJDEP Fish & Wildlife R3 Fishing Program hosts a free, hands-on fishing workshop at Wells Mills County Park on July 15, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Designed especially for beginners, the workshop offers a friendly introduction to the basics of freshwater fishing. All equipment and bait will be provided, making it an easy and accessible opportunity for individuals and families to learn a new skill together. No prior experience is required—participants only need to bring their enthusiasm for the outdoors.
The event is open to individuals and families with children ages 10 and older, and participants under 18 must attend with a participating adult guardian. A valid 2026 New Jersey Fishing License is required for attendees ages 16–69.
Organizers say the workshop is part of a statewide effort to help new anglers feel confident and comfortable on the water. “Fishing is one of the most rewarding ways to connect with nature,” the NJDEP Fish & Wildlife team shared. “We’re excited to give beginners a fun, hands-on experience that can spark a lifelong hobby.”
Pre-registration is required, and space is expected to fill quickly. Interested participants can register by scanning the QR code on the event flyer or by visiting the official registration link: 🔗 https://forms.cloud.microsoft/g/sZEW1a9XU3
The workshop will be held at Wells Mills County Park, one of Ocean County’s most scenic outdoor destinations, offering peaceful lakeside views and abundant wildlife—an ideal setting for new anglers to cast their first line.
