Magnitude 1.1 Earthquake Reported in North Jersey

CHESTER, NJ — A small earthquake rattled part of North Jersey, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude 1.1 quake struck around 3:50 p.m., with its epicenter located nearly 4 miles southwest of Chester on Saturday, the USGS reported.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 7 miles.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage.
Saturday’s earthquake marks at least the seventh quake recorded in New Jersey so far this year.

Morris County also experienced a small earthquake in May. The magnitude 1.8 temblor was centered about 1 mile southeast of Long Valley in Washington Township.
