Devin Copley-Clevenger, 20 of Lumberton, was Apprehended by Police
Multiple police units were summoned to the area of Route 37 and Route 166 on Friday, November 26, 2021 at around 4:10 PM for a robbery in progress using a pistol. Officers met with the victim, who indicated that his vehicle was taken from the parking lot of 10 Route 37 East at gunpoint. He went on to say that he knew the suspects and had agreed to give one of them a ride to Auto Zone after their car broke down.
When they arrived at Auto Zone, the victim's companion got out of the car and began walking toward the store. A few moments later, the passenger door opened, and another individual entered the vehicle, brandishing a firearm and demanding the victim's stuff. The victim got out of the car and rushed to a nearby parking lot, where he called the cops.
In the victim's vehicle, the suspect exited the parking lot and drove westbound on Route 37 toward Manchester. The Manchester Township Police Department was promptly alerted, and the car was swiftly spotted heading west on Route 37 near Lakehurst. The vehicle was stopped in the parking lot of 401 Route 70, Lakehurst, by Manchester authorities. Devin Copley-Clevenger, a 20-year-old Lumberton man, was apprehended without incident.
The vehicle was subsequently searched, and a loaded 9mm handgun with a high capacity magazine was discovered. The car was processed by the Ocean County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Unit.
First-degree robbery, first-degree car jacking, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine were all charges against Mr. Copley-Clevenger. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office approved all charges.
