Did You Experience Trouble With Your Cell Service?
Verizon said Friday afternoon that it had resolved a "intermittent issue" that had stopped certain cell phone customers from making or receiving calls in the area.
"Our network teams detected and fixed the problem, and all services have been restored," a business spokeswoman stated around 3 p.m. in a statement.
According to DownDetector, customers in the New York and New Jersey area reported disruptions before others said service had been restored.
Verizon declined to comment on the cause of the prior outage, but stated it was just affecting cell phone calls.
Also according to Downdetector, the number of reported Verizon outages peaked about 1 p.m. Eastern time on Friday and swelled to over 14,000 by 2:14. In contrast to the Internet, almost 85% of them impacted cell phone service.
Several people on social media claimed that Verizon phones throughout the Eastern United States, including New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, were unable to transmit or receive calls.
