Police Have Charged Kareem R. Blagman, 41, of Chester, Pennsylvania, with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Terroristic Threats, and Obstruction

According to authorities, a Pennsylvania man was apprehended Sunday morning after a five-hour standoff at a property in Point Pleasant.

In the incident that began with an attempted motor vehicle stop early Sunday morning, Kareem R. Blagman, 41, of Chester, Pennsylvania, has been charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, terroristic threats, and obstruction of the administration of law, according to Point Pleasant Police Capt. Adam T. Picca.

Picca said Blagman was driving a car that was not registered to him when Point Pleasant Police Officer David Ippolito attempted to pull him over for driving without headlights at 12:50 a.m.

Blagman, whose name was unknown when Ippolito attempted to pull him over, instead of stopping, pulled into a driveway on Barbara Drive and rushed into the house, according to Picca.

Picca stated Ippolito attempted to communicate with Blagman from outside the house when Blagman punched through the glass of a bay window. According to Ippolito, he was hit by flying glass and received injuries to his face and eyes.

As more policemen came and put up a perimeter around the house, Blagman refused to come out of the house and began threatening to fire and murder the officers, Picca added.

During the scene investigation, authorities discovered Blagman was involved in an altercation in Bay Head right before he met Ippolito.

While Lt. Christopher Leonhardt, the Point Pleasant Police Department crisis negotiator, spoke with Blagman, police from Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach, and Mantoloking aided with street closures. Picca added that after nearly five hours, Blagman agreed to come out of the house with the help of the Ocean County Regional SWAT team.

He was taken into custody without incident. Officer Matthew Mergner, according to Picca, filed the accusations.

Blagman is being held at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, where he will be held until his detention hearing.
