According to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, A father from Middlesex County has been charged with the murder of his 6-year-old son, who was in his care in Barnegat at the time of his death in April.
Christopher Gregor, 29, of Monroe, had already been charged in the case with child endangerment. According to a joint statement by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Barnegat Police Chief Keith Germain, an expert witness's review for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and further investigation led to the homicide charge.
Gregor was arrested on Wednesday and is being held at Toms River's Ocean County Jail.
After the boy's death on April 2, 2021, Stafford police officers proceeded to Southern Ocean Medical Center. The child's name was not released, but his obituary identified him as Gregor's son, Corey T. Micciolo of Englishtown.
Officers from the Stafford Township Police Department responded to Southern Ocean Medical Center on April 2, 2021, in response to the death of a six-year-old boy named C.M. The Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office conducted a post-mortem examination on April 3, 2021, and determined that C.M. had been injured by blunt force trauma.
Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crime Squad, and the Barnegat Township Police Department discovered evidence that Gregor had committed acts of abuse against the child in Barnegat Township on March 20, 2021 while investigating the child's death. As a result, Gregor was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, which is a violation of the Child Welfare Act.
Gregor was first detained in the Ocean County Jail, but was later released as a result of New Jersey Bail Reform.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office received a report from the State's expert witness on March 3, 2022, indicating that C.M. died as a result of blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen, and that the child's death was homicide.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit, Barnegat Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit conducted an extensive investigation, which revealed that C.M. was in the custody of Gregor at the time he sustained his life-ending injuries, and that Gregor is the person responsible for the child's death.
Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Strike Force, Sea Bright Police Department, and Barnegat Township Police Department apprehended Gregor on March 9, 2022. In the meanwhile, Gregor is being held in the Ocean County Jail until a detention hearing.
