Around 2:45 p.m., on August 30, 2022, Seaside Heights police officers responded to a 911 call at the
Sunburst Motel and found Ryan, a 21-month-old boy, unresponsive and not breathing. Police reported on Monday.
Detective Steve Korman reported that Officer Christopher Linnell picked up the child and struck him twice in the back. The boy gasped and resumed breathing as a result of the blows.
The youngster was taken by Tri-Boro First Aid to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he was treated and later released, according to Korman.
According to a statement on the Seaside Heights police department's Facebook page, "It was simply another day at work for Officer Christopher Linnell, but it was undoubtedly their worst nightmare for the family of this beautiful little child."
