Lifeguards on Duty After Labor Day

Lifeguards will remain on daily duty

Until Sunday, September 11, lifeguards will continue to be on duty every day at the borough's ocean beaches.

On the weekends of September 17 and 18 and September 24 and 25, the Beach Patrol will additionally have security personnel on duty. The number of beaches that will be patrolled will depend on the quantity of people on hand, according to officials. Depending on the available security personnel, certain swimming places may be prohibited.

Borough officials advise beachgoers to swim only when lifeguards are on duty and in designated locations. In September 2021, numerous rescues were carried out by volunteer fire departments around the Ocean County shore, especially in Seaside Heights, due to strong rip currents and heavy seas.

In September of last year, a 54-year-old man drowned in the water off Brick Beach I, prompting a flurry of rescue operations in Ortley Beach, Normandy Beach, and Seaside Heights.

Since tropical systems typically rotate offshore during those months, September and October frequently bring rough surf to the Jersey Shore.

There will be no lifeguards on the North Bayfront Beach after Labor Day.
