Aggravated Assault Arrest with Machete in Ocean County

Julian Ogle

ARRESTED: Julian Ogle, age 20 of Wall NJ

According to Jackson Township Police Department, officers were summoned to East Pleasant Grove Road on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at about 5:15 p.m. on a report of a group of persons fighting in the street in front of a property.

Officer Travis Ceppaluni was stopped on Frank Applegate Road en route to the scene by a vehicle carrying many people who had been involved in the incident.

Another subject at the scene allegedly struck him in the head with a machete, causing a significant head laceration in a male passenger in the vehicle. The victim and the other passengers in the van all identified the suspect by name and claimed that he had attacked the victim with a machete.

The victim was treated at the scene by First Aid before being transferred to a local hospital for additional treatment.

Officers and detectives who arrived to the East Pleasant Grove Road residence made contact with the suspect and other residents. A machete that appeared to have been used in this crime was discovered during the inquiry, and a suspect was taken into jail after being positively identified.

The victim was apparently involved in an ongoing disagreement with the suspect and had gone to the apartment to confront him, according to the officer's inquiry, which was aided by footage of the incident retrieved by police.

The victim got out of his car, which was parked across the street from the residence, and began shouting out to the suspect to come out of the house. The suspect then exited the property, took the machete from a parked car in the driveway, and went the length of the driveway and onto the street to approach the victim, who had just gotten a beach chair from the trunk when he noticed the suspect get the machete

.

The two then swung the items at each other, and the victim was struck many times with the machete during the ensuing battle. Uninvolved individuals who stopped and intervened appear to have eventually broken up the brawl.

Multiple other subjects from the residence were also involved in the investigation, and while the victim was on the ground, he was kicked in the head by a second male subject who had fled the residence. A female passenger was also violently removed from the vehicle and attacked after being thrown to the ground.
