Brick Police Recovered Items Worth Thousands
Brick Township police said Tuesday that four persons have been detained in a shoplifting ring that investigators believe has stolen thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise from retailers around the tri-state area.
After Brick police were called around 6 p.m. to the Target on Route 70 for a theft report, Sgt. Jim Kelly said David Jamaluddin, 21, and Eduard Kagalovsky, 19, both from Brooklyn, Margarite Peconio, 19, of Queens, and a juvenile were arrested March 7.
Detectives from the department's Street Crimes Unit, as well as Detectives Tom Cooney and Mike Bennet, and Patrolmen Mike DeMaio and Mark Catalina, were involved, according to Kelly. According to Kelly, the suspects were still in the store at the time, and police identified them as suspects in past shoplifting instances around the tri-state area.
Officers stopped and arrested the defendants as they pushed out more than $1,000 worth of products in a shopping cart without paying. They were identified as the same four suspects who stole more than $400 in products from the Target store on February 2, according to Kelly.
During the investigation, officers discovered merchandise worth thousands of dollars from other businesses in several towns, including the Target stores in Manalapan and Howell, as well as the Kohl's store in Howell. Merchandise from DSW and TJ Maxx was also discovered by detectives, according to Kelly.
According to Kelly, Jamaluddin, Kagalovsky, Peconio, and the juvenile have all been charged with two counts of third-degree shoplifting. On summonses, Jamaluddin, Kagalovsky, and Peconio were released, and the juvenile was returned to their guardian.
He stated that the probe is still ongoing.
