TOMS RIVER — Families across Ocean County are invited to step into a world of color, wings, and wonder as the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County hosts its annual Butterfly Tent Event on Saturday, August 15, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at 1623 Whitesville Road, Toms River. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, August 16.

This free community event celebrates the beauty of butterflies, the importance of pollinators, and the vibrant ecosystem that supports them. Visitors can stroll through a walk‑through butterfly display tent, offering an up-close look at these delicate creatures in a lush, garden-inspired setting.

Educational stations throughout the event will teach guests about the butterfly life cycle, pollinator species, and native plants that help sustain New Jersey’s environment. Kids of all ages can enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, and interactive learning experiences designed to spark curiosity and appreciation for nature.

“Events like this help families connect with the natural world in a fun and meaningful way,” organizers said. “It’s a chance to learn, explore, and celebrate the role butterflies and pollinators play in our everyday lives.”

Admission is free, and attendees who pre-register will have the option to purchase a commemorative event T-shirt. Donations are welcomed to support future educational programs and community events hosted by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension.

Please note that pets are not permitted inside the event area.
