Dylan S. Panatero, 40

After crashing into another car and avoiding police in a stolen car, a Toms River man with a suspended license has been charged with assault by auto and eluding, according to Toms River police.

After hitting a car that was stopped for a traffic signal at Yellowbank Road on Fischer Boulevard on November 8, Dylan S. Panatero, 40, was taken into custody, according to Jillian Messina, a public relations specialist with the Toms River Police Department.

Although the vehicle was first reported stolen, Panatero has since been charged with carjacking, aggravated assault (for allegedly attempting to strangle a victim of domestic abuse), contempt for breaking a protective order, burglary, robbery, unlawfully taking a means of conveyance, and driving while on the revoked list, according to records from Ocean County Court.

According to Messina, on November 8, at approximately 11 p.m., Toms River Police Officer Michael Weg was on patrol when he noticed a car at a Route 37 traffic signal that had been reported stolen from Bridgewater.

Weg activated his overhead lights as the driver entered an adjacent parking lot and made an attempt to get close to the car, according to her. The driver, now identified as Panatero, then abruptly left the parking space and drove off.

Weg trailed behind, and Panatero continued to drive away quickly and carelessly, according to Messina. According to Messina, he lost control of the car and struck a stopped car on Fischer Boulevard at the traffic light at Yellowbank Road.

According to her, Panatero was sent to Community Medical Center for treatment after sustaining a minor injury. After receiving emergency medical attention on the spot, the other motorist declined to receive any more care.

According to TR Police, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office authorized a second-degree evading charge. Panatero was also charged with receiving stolen items, vehicular assault, and a crash resulting in harm while driving with a suspended license. Additionally, Panatero had multiple motor vehicle infractions.

The owner was alerted and the stolen car was impounded.

Panatero is being imprisoned at the Toms River Ocean County Jail. Panatero faces further counts in addition to the ones listed above, including possession of a controlled hazardous substance. The location of the domestic violence assault is unknown.
