Critical Condition: Mother Hit While Pushing Stroller

According to Toms River Police Department, after being struck by a car while crossing Old Freehold Road at Route 166 with her kids on Saturday night, a mother was reportedly in critical condition.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., the woman, who is in her 20s, was walking with her 2-year-old boy and pushing her infant in a stroller when they were struck, according to Toms River Police.

According to Chief Little, they were using the crosswalk to go from the parking lot near Attilio's to the Riverside Cemetery intersection.

According to Little, the man in his 20s who struck them was traveling south on Route 166 when he turned left into Old Freehold Road. According to Little, the driver told police he saw a break in the traffic and decided to turn.

The woman pushing the stroller was not visible to the driver, he claimed.

It was reported that the mother was critically injured at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, having sustained the most severe injuries.

Her son suffered himself a hand injury. Little stated that the stroller had overturned, but it was unclear if the child had sustained any severe injuries.

Unverified accounts claim that moments before she was struck, the mother moved the stroller out of the way.

The woman's husband was informed by police and went to the hospital to be with his family.

The driver received a summons for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
