TR Schools Reunited

According to Toms River Schools, thousands of teachers, nurses, maintenance personnel, paraprofessionals, and other staff members arrived at RWJBarnabas Health Arena on Friday morning in dozens of buses from each of the district's 19 buildings. The event marked the start of the 2023–2024 academic year.

Hugs abounded as old pals from various schools got back together. As the gathering grew, Walnut Street Elementary's DJ Phil Walsh spun the tunes, which only boosted the good vibes on this picture-perfect Friday morning. With questions regarding Toms River's past, assistant superintendents Pat Thomas and Cara DiMeo led the crowd in what was perhaps the largest Kahoot! game anyone there had ever participated in.

In addition to providing perspective and inspiration for the forthcoming school year, Superintendent Mike Citta thanked all the organizations that help make the district what it is and even included an impromptu blooper reel video to show that he and the rest of us are only human. We are TR chants were used to end the presentation.

After leaving the arena, staff members went back to their respective buildings to participate in some professional development activities and get ready for Tuesday's first day of class for the kids.

The atmosphere was positive and the sun was out this morning, so it seemed like everyone was eager to kick off the 2023–2024 school year.
