According to authorities, a Monmouth County man was charged with DUI after his Tesla collided with a New Jersey Natural Gas truck on Sunday night, forcing the truck to flip and injuring the driver.

According to South Toms River Police Chief William Kosh, John W. Gorechlad, 47, of Little Silver, was traveling north on Tilton Avenue when he ran the stop sign at Dover Road and hit the back driver's side of the truck.

According to Kosh, the impact caused the truck to flip over and a gas tank on board to rupture.

According to Kosh, it was unclear whether Gorechlad was operating the automobile or if it was in self-driving mode.

Officers Tess Martin and Jaden Kosh assisted the truck driver, a 52-year-old Toms River man, out of the vehicle via the glass. According to the chief, he was transferred to Community Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Gorechlad managed to flee the scene of the accident and was apprehended shortly down the road at the Wawa on Dover Road, according to Kosh.

According to Kosh, Gorechlad has been charged with DUI, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

According to Kosh, the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, Beachwood police, and Manitou Park Fire Department all assisted.
