According to Lavallette Police Department, a 39-year-old male from North Jersey passed away Tuesday after being rescued from the ocean.

At 11:43 a.m., officials received a call reporting a swimmer in trouble, and the man, a Totowa resident, was discovered partially submerged in the ocean approximately 25 yards from shore off the New York Avenue beach, according to Police Chief Christian LaCicero.
Like the majority of Jersey Shore municipalities, Lavallette does not have lifeguards on duty after Labor Day, hence there were none on duty.

According to LaCicero, resuscitation efforts started as soon as rescue swimmers from Seaside Heights and Lavallette entered and pulled the man out of the water.

After being transported to Toms River Community Medical Center, the man was declared deceased, according to LaCicero.

According to LaCicero, the Seaside Heights Beach Patrol, Seaside Heights police, Toms River police, the Seaside Heights and Seaside Park fire departments, Tri-Boro First Aid, and RWJ Barnabas paramedics helped Lavallette.
