According to police, on Thursday afternoon in Barnegat, their SUV swerved off the Garden State Parkway and crashed, killing a 35-year-old man and badly injuring a 34-year-old woman.

About five o'clock in the evening, George M. Francis was traveling south near milepost 68.2. According to State Police, his car veered off the road to the right, crashed down an embankment, and collided with a retaining wall and several trees.

Francis, a resident of Lacey's Lanoka Harbor neighborhood, was flung from the SUV and perished in the collision.

The woman, who was also from Lanoka Harbor and was riding in the front seat, was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. State Police report that there were no injuries to the two kids in the rear seat.

Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
