Fourteen Kayakers Rescued from Rapid Waters in NJ
Following the rescue of a group of 14 kayakers who became stuck in a section of the Batsto River on Saturday, two teenagers were assessed for hypothermia, according to state officials.
According to Caryn Shinske, a representative for the State Department of Environmental Protection, the group, which consisted of four adults and ten children between the ages of 14 and 17, had encountered obstacles on the river within the
Wharton State Forest and were unable to proceed farther along it.
According to Shinske, the group was assisted by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, New Jersey State Park Police, and local organizations in getting out of the river.
When the group called for assistance, she did not specify how long they had been stranded.
Because to the inclement weather, at least two of the teenagers were assessed for potential hypothermia, she said. There were no known life-threatening injuries.
