Halloween Trick-or-Treat Schedule Announced in Toms River

Trick or Treating

If you want to take your kids trick-or-treating this year, Toms River will do it on Halloween, according to township officials.

To avoid clashing with the annual Toms River Halloween Parade, trick-or-treating is normally held on Oct. 30 in Toms River. Since its inception in 1919, the parade has nearly always taken place on Halloween. Trick-or-treating was relocated to Oct. 30 as it rose in popularity, attracting thousands of participants and spectators. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is the second-largest in the world.

Toms River Fire Company 1, which organizes and runs the parade, made an agreement with the churches in Toms River that it would not be held on Halloween when Oct. 31 falls on a Sunday.

As a result, the parade has been rescheduled for Oct. 30, 2021, with a rain date of Monday, Nov. 1   The Toms River Halloween Parade will return in 2021, according to the fire department.

"Because the Toms River Halloween Parade is on a Saturday this year, children can go trick-or-treating on the regular day, October 31st," Mayor Maurice Hill explained.
