Surfer Rescues Deer

According to 6abc.com this week, a New Jersey photographer documented an intriguing image on the beach in Belmar.

Adrienne Tully, while out taking pictures of the sunrise on Sunday, came across a buck who was having difficulty swimming in the water. The deer managed to get onto the rocks but was having difficulty returning to the shore due to the choppy waves.

According to Tully, the animal eventually managed to reach safety with the aid of a neighboring surfer.

The unidentified surfer who saved the deer from certain death after it became entangled in Belmar's choppy surf on Sunday morning is Thomas Buckley. On Tuesday, he admitted that he almost skipped surfing that morning.

When Buckley arrived on the scene, he claimed to have heard someone cry "Deer!" and seen a buck struggling to remain afloat in the water. He claims that's when he paddled towards the direction of the animal.

The deer washed off the jetty. Since he could see it absorbing water and breathing water out of its nose, he made the decision to definitely assist the deer right away,

Adrienne, a resident of Belmar, recorded the 45-minute rescue on camera. Friends of Buckley claim it comes as no surprise that he was the unknown surfer.

Since he was 18 years old, Buckley has been a surfer. During the summer, he works as a lifeguard in Belmar. He claims to be accustomed to the water but never imagined having to save a deer.
