August 15, 1944 ~ September 19, 2026 (age 82)
John P. Wauters, CPA of Toms River, NJ died on Saturday, September 19, 2026. He was born August 15, 1944, to Antoinette and Felix Wauters in Jersey City where he and his brother Theodore were raised. John received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Business Administration from Pace University in New York City. He left a major CPA firm in New York City to start his own firm in Toms River. He relocated to Toms River in 1971.
First, he taught seven years accounting and taxes at Ocean County College. In 1979, he started his own CPA firm. Years later, he returned as an adjunct professor teaching at night for eighteen years. The college recognized him in 2010 as their outstanding faculty member.
John’s CPA firm John Wauters and Company, LLC has operated on Main St. Toms River for forty-seven years. He thoroughly enjoyed serving his clients, many for decades and many becoming friends.
John was an active member of many organizations throughout Ocean County. These included Outreach (addictive treatment); the Rotary; the Toms River Board of Adjustment; the Ocean County Democrats serving as Finance Chairman; Founding Member and Treasurer of Ocean County Citizens for Clean Water (exposing and educating the public and stopping the active Ciba Geigy pollution); and Co-founder and Treasurer of The House of Hope in Toms River.
For fifty-nine years, John was married to “his bride” Honorable Stephanie Mongiello Wauters. They were blessed with two sons, John Philip Jr., and David Stephen. John took primary care and guidance of his sons as their mother attended law school. The three of them totally supported her. Over the years, John and his family enjoyed traveling often to the Caribbean and throughout the States. With his wife and sometimes other family members, they traveled worldwide across Europe, Polynesia, Antarctica, Africa, and elsewhere. John enjoyed golfing (more socializing) and fishing (more relaxing). He also favored blueberry crumb pie, mashed potatoes, and using No. 2 pencils. John was known for his sense of humor with former students, recalling examples of his humor when teaching.
Above all, John loved his family, which includes his daughters-in-law Karen and Jennifer, four grandchildren, Ryan, Madeline, Alison, and James, and the Mongiello members: Barbara, Marc, Jeffrey, Rachel, Regina, and Jeremy. Family holidays and traditions and occasions were very special. Family, friends, students, clients, and all who knew John are grateful for having known the kind, compassionate, selfless, generous, and humble John with his great sense of humor.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1 to 5 P.M. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals at 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ.
