Iconic Hot Dog Spot Might Reopen in Ocean County

According to Brick Township Planning Board, the WindMill has proposed to reopen a restaurant across from its former Route 70 location in Brick, bringing its crinkle-cut fries and hot dogs with it.

Windmill Corp. is requesting permission to convert the old T-Mobile store at 905 Route 70 North into a restaurant in documents submitted to the township Planning Board.

Located in the Brick Dunkin' Plaza, the 1,032-square-foot structure is across the parking lot from Dunkin', Mattress Firm, and Tiger Schulmann's.

The addition of a patio for outside seating is part of the design, but municipal approval is needed.

The board will meet on Wednesday night, and the schedule includes a hearing.

After operating a restaurant on Route 70 for more than 30 years, WindMill closed the location in 2019. The area now houses a CityMD urgent care facility, along with the 7-Eleven that was next door.

The Levine family ran the WindMill, a Jersey Shore landmark known for its cheese fries and Sabrett hotdogs, for many years. The first windmill-topped restaurant that debuted on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch's West End in the early 1960s was bought by brothers Edward and Leo Levine in 1976.

Many years later, Rena Levine Levy, Leo's daughter, and Steven Levine, his son, took over the restaurant. Other family members handled the grill, ran the offices, and performed behind the scenes work.

Ralph Epstein, who along with his family own the Wrightstown-based Hanover Golf Club and the Neptune-based Jumping Brook Country Club, bought the WindMill in late 2022.

There are currently five locations: two in Long Branch, one in Red Bank, one in Ocean Grove, and one in Belmar. Check Out Their Menu
