In a Toms River Crash that Closed Route 9, a Lakewood man was Charged with DWI

Arrests

Hervin Moreno Lopez, 25 or Lakewood

Police units were summoned to the intersection of Route 9 and Cox Cro Road for a reported motor vehicle accident on Friday, February 4, 2022 at about 11:50 p.m.

Hervin Moreno Lopez, 25, of Lakewood, reported that he was heading southbound on Route 9 near the intersection with Cox Cro Road when his car left the roadway, jumped the curb, struck a utility pole, broke it, and continued south, striking a second utility pole, where it came to rest.

The road was closed in both directions as a result of the crash.

Mr. Moreno Lopez was intoxicated at the time of the incident, according to the initial inquiry. He was taken under custody after refusing medical assistance at the site. Mr. Moreno Lopez was charged with driving under the influence of drugs-alcohol, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving without a license-never licensed, operating with drugs in the vehicle, open alcohol in the vehicle, failure to have registration, failure to have insurance, and a cell phone violation.

His vehicle was severely damaged and had to be hauled away. JCP&L was dispatched to repair the damage and replace the power poles. As a result of the collision, the road was closed in both directions. Officer Anthony Mastrandrea of the Toms River Patrol is investigating the crash.
