In the Garden State, several cases of BA.2, a contagious subvariant of the omicron coronavirus variant, have been discovered. Here's the most recent update.

According to a representative for the Novel Jersey Department of Health, three cases of the new omicron subvariant have been identified thus far.

BA.2, a subvariant of omicron, is sometimes known as "stealth omicron" since its genetic features make it more difficult to detect, and data suggests it will spread even faster than its renowned parent. BA.2 cases have been detected in nearly half of the states in the United States so far.

The Department of Health refused to reveal where the three instances were discovered in New Jersey or provide any other information.

According to the World Health Organization, this novel subvariant is not a variant of concern. COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have not increased in nations where it has quickly become the main version, such as Denmark.

According to the state's COVID dashboard, which breaks it down by variants, the two variants circulating the most in New Jersey at the time are omicron and delta.
