Let’s Reminisce: The Iconic Dover Diner in Toms River

Dover Diner

Do You Remember This Restaurant?

Everyone who grew up in Toms River remembers this restaurant, which was located at 950 Route 166 in Toms River.

In order to enlarge the road and improve Route 9, this Toms River landmark was demolished in 2008. The cafe was housed in a stainless steel 1950 Silky City dining car and opened in 1949. It lured customers with a banner that read, "Eat here - or we'll both starve!"

A counter that was the width of the restaurant and a few accessible booths made up the little establishment, which was a part of the community before the Garden State Parkway ran through Toms River.

Now there are many diners located in Toms River including:
  • Bandwagon Diner
  • Toms River Diner
  • Crystal Diner
  • Four Seasons Diner
  • Town and Country
  • Silverton Diner
