Machete-Wielding Road Rage Suspect Captured by Police. Austin Martinez, 29, of Beachwood has been apprehended in Brick, NJ.

According to Brick Police, and Toms River Police Department, officers from the Toms River Police Department responded to an incident of road rage involving a machete near the Ocean County Mall on April 24, 2024, at around 6:04 PM.

A victim said that a man in a blue Jeep Liberty tapped on his window with a machete while he was stopped at a red light on Water Street.

After making an attempt to escape, the victim entered the Ocean County Mall, but the male suspect saw her there and pursued her once again through the parking lot.

The victim drove to the Toms River Police Department after phoning 911.

Officers were unable to catch up to the Jeep Liberty as it went north on Hooper Avenue, so they reported it to the Brick Police Department.

Shortly after, Austin Martinez, a 29-year-old man from Beachwood, was reported as the male suspect by Brick Police, who said the car had crashed in their town.

When the Toms River Police came, they saw the machete inside the car in full view. Martinez faces charges of making terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
