MAN FACING CHARGES IN ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING OF TEEN GIRL IN LAKEWOOD

Lakewood Police

Ocean County, New Jersey

The teen’s mother tells News 12 New Jersey that the man grabbed her, held his hand over her mouth and put her in the passenger seat. That’s when she started to kick and claw her way free.

Police arrested a man accused of an attempted abduction of a 13-year old girl in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The suspect's name and criminal charges have yet to be revealed by the Ocean County prosecutor.

Officials say the 13-year-old girl was grabbed in her neighborhood around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lakewood area known as Forest Park Circle.

The teenager was walking on the sidewalk, returning something to a neighbor, when officials say a man in a white SUV got out of his vehicle and said to her, “You need to get in the car.”

According to News 12 New Jersey, the teen’s mother said that the man grabbed her daughter, held his hand over her mouth and put her in the passenger seat.

That’s when the teen bravely started to kick and claw her way free from her kidnapper.

At the same time, a 15-year-old boy saw what was going on and started screaming.

The suspect became aware he was spotted and he sped off in an attempt to get away.

Police found the man wanted for the attempted kidnapping around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

While driving south on Whitesville Road in Tom River, officials say he attempted to turn right onto Route 70 and lost control, crashing into a utility pole on the opposite side of the intersection.

The man was immediately placed under arrest.
