The SPCA worked with reptile experts at F&F to arrange a new home with an experienced snake handler who has the required permits and proper facilities to care for the animal. Officials said if a legal owner does not come forward, the python will remain in permanent care with its new caretaker.
The organization used the unusual rescue as a reminder that exotic animals should never be released into the wild.
“Exotic pets do not belong in the wild,” the Monmouth County SPCA said in a social media post, warning that released animals can harm native wildlife, create safety concerns for other pets, and may not survive outside of captivity.
Officials encouraged anyone who can no longer care for an exotic reptile to contact a licensed rescue organization or animal shelter for help rather than abandoning the animal outdoors.
