Memorial Day Weekend Weather: Heavy rain and storms ahead

On Memorial Day weekend, a severe weather threat is anticipated to reach New Jersey, bringing multiple rounds of thunderstorms, strong gusts, and a lot of rain, according to forecasters.

Showers are expected to start before 2 p.m. on Friday, with a risk of thunderstorms continuing into the evening. With a high of 80, skies will be mainly overcast.

Forecasters are concerned about flash floods, since some of the storms are expected to bring heavy rain and destructive wind gusts. Urban areas, roadways, and small streams will be most vulnerable to "severe" flash floods.

Winds that are "damaging" are also expected, according to forecasters. Thunderstorms, strong gusts, and heavy rain are expected to last all day Saturday until around 8 p.m.

The silver lining: Sunny skies are forecast for Sunday and Monday, with highs in the low to mid-80s. In reality, the outlook is clear through Wednesday, with temperatures in the 90s expected on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
