Michael Citta Superintendent

Toms River Superintendent of Schools

For the Toms River Regional Schools, a new chapter begins, one that Superintendent Mike Citta vows will be bright for both staff and kids.

Citta, who was chosen superintendent in February after a 15-month squabble over David Healy's replacement, aims to put the upheaval behind him.

Citta was awarded a four-year contract with a salary of $215,000, which is prorated through June 30 and will stay the same in the 2022-23 school year. According to the contract, he will be given 2% annual raises after that.

Citta said there has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes to prepare for the transfer to his leadership, in a message to employees, students, and the Toms River Regional Schools community on Friday.

Stephen Genco, who has served as interim superintendent since July 2021, will continue in an advising capacity for the time being, as the board decided when Citta was nominated superintendent.

Citta was hailed by board members and locals at Wednesday's school board meeting, as they welcomed the appointment of Kevin Raylman to take over as principal at Toms River High School South on July 1, filling Citta's previous role.
