New Jersey Could See a Steamy Summer in 2026
Although New Jersey's summers are typically hot and muggy, the summer of 2026 might be even hotter than normal.
For the season that begins in June,
AccuWeather forecasts are projecting that. (The astronomical calendar places the beginning of summer on June 21, but meteorologists believe it begins on June 1.)
According to AccuWeather's
2026 summer forecast, which was made public on Wednesday morning, most of the United States, including New Jersey and other Northeastern states, will have temperatures that are higher than usual.
According to AccuWeather, summertime temperatures in our area will probably be 1 to 2 degrees above average. Other regions of the nation will see much greater temperatures.
This summer, the majority of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast parts of the country are expected to have temperatures that are two to three degrees over average, while the Northwest region may experience temperatures that are three to five degrees above average.
According to Paul Pastelok, AccuWeather's long-range prediction expert, this summer may bring a "late burst of heat and greater humidity" in New Jersey and other Northeastern states.
In June, July, and August, he thinks the high humidity will increase the heat index, or how hot it feels, "during the day and contribute to warmer nights."
According to AccuWeather, there will be sporadic severe thunderstorms in New Jersey this summer. The risk is predicted to peak in July. Always stay up-to-date with the latest
forecast.
🌡️ Bottom line
Hotter-than-average temperatures are likely
Humidity will probably make it feel even hotter
Exact rainfall and storm patterns remain unclear
In other words: expect a classic Jersey summer—hazy, hot, humid… and possibly turned up a notch.
