A preliminary 2.9-magnitude earthquake, one of many minor earthquakes to strike the state since the 4.8-magnitude earthquake on April 5, shook Somerset County early on Saturday morning.

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred around 4:50 a.m., 7 km to the west-southwest of Gladstone. A 2.1-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the same region last weekend was also noted by the USGS.

The earthquake on Saturday morning is one of several that have struck the Garden State this week. In the counties of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Morris, the USGS has detected multiple minor earthquakes. All of them started last week in the areas of Califon, Gladstone and Chester.

Three weeks have passed since the tri-state area was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8. The original earthquake, which was centered roughly 45 miles west of New York City and 50 miles north of Philadelphia, may have been felt by over 42 million people, according to the USGS.
