New Jersey Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

New Jersey Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Over the next few hours, nasty weather may make its way to New Jersey.

All 21 counties in the state are under a severe thunderstorm watch, with forecasters predicting sporadic storms with significant rainfall, big hail, and wind gusts of up to 60 to 70 mph on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., the National Weather Service issued the watch, which was in place until 9 p.m. Wednesday. The watch includes eastern Pennsylvania and New York City in addition to all of New Jersey.

Before a cold front passes across the Garden State later today, widely dispersed thunderstorms are predicted to appear in the afternoon. Our unusual May heat wave will come to an end as the front causes temperatures to drop sharply.

As a result, a heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, western Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Union and Warren counties.
