A teen who died in a hit-and-run accident will be honored with a candlelit vigil.

The GoFundMe creator characterized the 15-year-old student, known as Jackson Mueller, as smart and outgoing.

According to the gofundme, "On Tuesday May 19th at 650a a beautiful life was tragically taken. Jackson was a thriving outgoing smart 15 year old boy. I ask you to please donate to help his parents cover the cost to bury their son."
On May 20 at 7 p.m., Brick Memorial High School's front parking lot will host a lighted vigil in remembrance of Jackson. For safety reasons, police asked everyone to park in the school's lots rather than on the shoulder in front of the building.

The vigil was originally scheduled to take place near the intersection of California Avenue and Lanes Mill Road, but it was moved to the school when it appeared that a sizable audience would be there.

At approximately 6:50 a.m. on May 19, Jackson was riding his bicycle, perhaps his route to school, when the collision occurred near the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and Lanes Mill Road.

Officials claim that when police arrived on the site, they discovered a young cyclist who had been struck by a car and was declared deceased.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, investigators eventually concluded that the biker was heading west on Rhode Island Avenue through a designated crosswalk when a 2021 BMW struck him while speeding north on Lanes Mill Road.

According to authorities, the young driver fled the scene without stopping to call the police or provide assistance. Later, the motorist was arrested and charged with intentionally fleeing the scene of a fatal car accident. The suspect is being detained at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center, according to the authorities.

School officials said grief counseling and support services are being made available for students and staff. Contact Brick Memorial High School with any questions regarding same.
