NJ Dad Charged with Killing His 9 Year-Old Son Has Died in Hospital

Manuel Rivera, 43, of Sayreville Killed 9 Year-Old Son

According to Sayreville Police Department and Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office revealed today that Sayreville resident Manuel Rivera, 43, passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on April 17, 2024.

When authorities discovered Rivera's 9-year-old son's body inside a burning automobile next to Sayreville War Memorial High School on March 28, 2024, they charged him with Aggravated Arson, Murder, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Desecration of Human Remains

After responding to a call about a domestic altercation, Sayreville police saw the burned-out automobile near the high school's rear entrance on Washington Road. Rivera sustained a self-inflicted wound and was found alive with burns all over his body. The car beside him was completely covered in gasoline and caught fire.

After being taken to Robert Wood Johnson University, Rivera's condition deteriorated and he passed away there..
