NJ Residents Warned After Skimming Device is Found
According to 6abc.com, customers of 7-Eleven are being warned by South Jersey police after a skimming device was discovered on Monday.
After discovering the gadget on the credit card machine at a 7-Eleven on Route 130 in Cinnaminson, Burlington County, a patron called the authorities.
Police have told Action News that the skimmer was installed on the inside card reader on March 22 and that a customer found it on April 1, which is ten days later.
The video, which was taken on March 22 at 9:20 p.m., is currently being examined by detectives, according to their statement.
Skimmers resemble cases that fit over credit card readers at counters. Police claim that installing this gadget takes only a few seconds.
It is used to gather data from swiped credit and debit cards, which can be exploited by criminals in a manner akin to the skimmers we frequently learn about at gas stations and ATMs.
Customers are being advised by investigators to check their bank statements for any strange activity and to report any fraud.
Customers should generally be alert and search for pieces around the buttons at gas pumps and ATMs that can seem loose or not original to the machine. Apply the same principle to the internal card readers at the counter.
