Is Winter Over in NJ? Prepare for a Big Warmup.
This winter season felt less like a traditional winter until colder air and two significant snowstorms hit New Jersey in the past couple weeks.
However, just when it appeared like winter would never end, experts are now predicting that this week we will see warmer temperatures arrive in our area. And some predict that the milder trend, which doesn't pose a serious threat from snowfall, may continue into early March.
Does this imply that winter is done already?Although meteorologists disagree on that point, they generally agree that winter is ending, even though some snowfall is still possible in March.
According to Monmouth County-based meteorologist Steven DiMartino, who oversees the NY NJ PA Weather forecasting organization, "I would say the potential for widespread winter storms is at an end." But until March, I will continue to monitor northwest New Jersey. In the second part of March, I anticipate a shift in trend toward a colder one, although it will be raw and wet rather than snowy.
The national Climate Prediction Center's long-range forecasters are also giving snow lovers a bleak picture, while providing snow haters with a nice one. They predict a high likelihood of above-average temperatures in New Jersey and the majority of the northeastern United States through the end of February and into the majority of March.
