A man from Berkeley Township perished on Friday after being ejected from a garbage truck in a collision on the Garden State Parkway, according to the New Jersey State Police.
According to Sgt. Philip Curry of the
New Jersey State Police, David Mello Jr., 56, of Bayville, passed away at the scene of the collision, which happened at 1:18 p.m. near milepost 82.8 northbound.
Curry claimed that Mello, who was operating a Peterbilt 320 garbage truck, veered off the Parkway to the right and collided with many trees. Curry claimed that the man was killed after being ejected during the truck collision.
The Parkway's southbound lanes remained open throughout the investigation, but Curry claimed that heavy traffic caused backups that extended north to Wall Township and congested side roads as people tried to avoid the Parkway traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
