Ocean County Man Pleads Guilty to Robbery and Aggravated Assault in Toms River

On March 14, 2022, William McMenamin, 29, of Point Pleasant Borough, pled guilty to two counts of robbery and aggravated assault in connection with an incident that occurred in Toms River on April 28, 2021, as well as a separate incident that occurred in Lacey Township on October 8, 2021, according to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

The State will seek a five-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison during McMenamin's sentencing on May 6, 2022, subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act.

Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Main Street and Route 37 on April 28, 2021, for a complaint of a fight in progress. Officers arrived to find a nineteen-year-old male victim who said he had been assaulted and his backpack had been stolen. For treatment of his injuries, the victim was taken to Community Medical Center. 

Following an investigation by the responding Toms River Police Officers, McMenamin was identified as the person who assaulted and robbed the victim. McMenamin was detained and taken to the Ocean County Jail; however, due to New Jersey Bail Reform, he was later freed by the Court.

Inn on October 8, 2021, for a robbery report. Responding officers discovered that McMenamin, who was a visitor at the Lacey Inn, had assaulted and robbed another occupant of the inn. McMenamin was apprehended and taken to the Ocean County Jail, where he has been since his arrest on October 8, 2021.

Prosecutor Billhimer commends the diligence of Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Michael Abatemarco who is handling the matters on behalf of the State, as well as the Toms River Township Police Department and Lacey Township Police Department for their efforts in connection with their respective investigations, leading to McMenamin’s arrest, guilty pleas, and soon his state prison sentence.
