Tuesday night in Lakewood, a teenage girl was killed after she was struck by a car as she crossed Route 70, according to the police.
A white 2006 Lexus being operated by a 19-year-old Toms River male struck the 15-year-old girl as she crossed Route 70 in the crosswalk at Vermont Avenue with her mother and younger sister, according to
Lakewood Police Department.. The Toms River adolescent was reportedly driving west on Route 70 while the family was walking to the south in the crosswalk.
According to authorities, the collision happened along Vermont Avenue and Route 70 in Lakewood at 10 p.m.
According to Lakewood police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith, a police officer heard the crash while exiting a convenience shop.
According to Staffordsmith, the officer spotted the teenage girl lying in the road behind the car and a car in the junction with significant front-end damage.
After being transported to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital, the young woman passed away from her wounds, according to Staffordsmith.
