The Toms River Planning Board granted approval in May 2023 to Onyx of Toms River LLC's plan to enclose the building's 478-square-foot loading dock. The 19,816-square-foot structure at the intersection of Hooper and Oak avenues would remain unchanged.
The project was approved by the Planning Board, and part of the idea was to rebuild the facility and lease it to the national furniture shop Bob's Discount Furniture. The property has a sign that reads, "New Retail Coming Soon."
According to the resolution, the property owner must renovate the delivery space at the back of the current structure to make room for Bob's retail operations.
Bob's is the sole retailer in Monmouth and Ocean counties with 13 locations in New Jersey, one of which is in Freehold Township. Although a Bob's representative acknowledged that a Toms River location was planned, they did not give a specific opening date.
