Portion of Route 37 Shoulders to Close
According to Toms River Government's Facebook Post, on January 12 and 13, weather permitting, surveyors from the Earle Asphalt Co, a New Jersey Department of Transportation contractor, will work on the cold shoulders of Route 37 between Hooper Blvd and Thomas Street.
The shoulders will be blocked between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., but all six travel lanes, three each eastbound and westbound, will remain open.
This is the beginning of a $9.2 million state-funded project to restore 4 miles of pavement on Route 37 from Thomas Street to Fischer Boulevard in both directions.
In each direction, Route 37 has three lanes of traffic. Improvements will be undertaken at the following junctions in addition to the pavement repairs:
Coolidge Avenue
Washington Street
Clifton Avenue
Peter Avenue/Batchelor Avenue
Vaughn Avenue/Westend Avenue
Garfield Avenue
Fischer BoulevardUpgraded traffic signals and ADA-compliant ramps are among the enhancements. Work on the electrical system is expected to commence in the coming weeks. In the summer of 2022, milling and paving will begin. The project is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2022.
Weather and other circumstances can cause the exact time of the work to change. For construction updates and real-time travel information, motorists should visit NJDOT's traffic information
