Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Bay Avenue in Toms River

Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at approximately 10:25 PM,

According to Toms River Police Department, police units were summoned to the intersection of Bay Avenue and Twin Oaks Drive for a reported motor vehicle accident on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at about 10:25 PM.

Ashley Beams, 31, of Toms River, was driving east on Bay Avenue when she failed to maintain her lane, crossed into the shoulder, and struck a pedestrian who was parked removing something from his vehicle, according to the initial investigation. Before coming to a halt, the cars traveled roughly 96'. At the scene, the person was pronounced dead.

Ms. Beams was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment of her injuries suffered in the accident. At the site, the Ocean County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Unit also assisted. Toms River is still looking into the event. Officer Ryan Fitzgerald of Toms River Traffic Safety and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office. At this moment, charges are pending.

The deceased will be identified when family notifications are complete.
