Senior Killed In Crash from Monmouth County

Lauren Hewski

A fund has been established in Lauren Hewski's honor by her family after she was killed in an automobile accident in Colts Neck while returning from a graduation ceremony.

Senior at Saint John Vianney High School Lauren Hewski was a "bright light," according to her family. She died in an automobile accident on Thursday.

The family is paying tribute to her loss by making donations to a GoFundMe for other students.

Lauren's family now aims to assist other women in following in her footsteps instead of her original plan to attend Syracuse University to study political science and public policy. The gofundme states that "Lauren's Light" will serve as the foundation for aiding other female pupils.

As a student in the Early College Academy at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, Lauren recently received her associate's degree from Brookdale Community College in Middletown. She graduated on Thursday, May 11.

But an hour later, Lauren was involved in a car accident while traveling to meet her parents for a celebratory lunch.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, in Colts Neck an overturned Jeep Cherokee was discovered by police when they arrived at Laird Road, which is located just west of Longbridge Road.

According to the prosecutor's office, the passenger, 18-year-old Lauren Hewski , was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, a 17-year-old male, was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.

Hewski's high school graduation was just a few short weeks away. June 3 is the graduation day at Saint John Vianney.

According to her Linked in website, she was class president, class secretary, a member of the distinguished honor roll, a school ambassador, a four-year varsity soccer player, and captain.

She participated actively in Girl Scouts of America in her neighborhood, holding positions on the CEO Advisory Board and as a Council Delegate for the Sandy Hook Region. She also earned the Bronze and Silver Awards and was working for the prestigious Gold Award, according to the statement.

It also mentions that she served on the Youth Advisory Council for U.S. Representative Frank Pallone Jr. and worked on immigration and homelessness policy objectives in addition to being a committed volunteer for the RAINE Foundation, a local charity.

She intended to study at Syracuse University's Maxwell School in New York state.

A parent at Saint John Vianney reported that on Friday, which was meant to be the day of the senior prom, a memorial Mass was celebrated with the senior class and the soccer team. That day, the seniors had the day off from class. The Senior Prom is scheduled for May 24.

The college community "is devastated over the tragic death of Lauren Hewski," said campus president Dr. David M. Stout on Friday. "At Brookdale's morning meeting, we had just toasted her accomplishment as one of our youngest college graduates.
